What makes a low fee card worth it.
A low-fee card doesn't have to mean a low-reward card. The UAE market has shifted in 2026: several lifetime-free and low-fee cards now offer 1.5–3% flat cashback or 4× category accelerators on online and dining spend. The days of only premium tiers earning real value are over.
The ranking here applies a fee penalty to the first-year net value calculation. A card charging AED 0 annual fee with 1.5% flat cashback will rank above a card charging AED 500 with 2% cashback at typical spend levels — because the fee erodes the delta until spend gets quite high.
Annual-spend fee waivers, not salary transfers, are the real gate for most UAE "low-fee" products. Across the cards we track, the joining and annual fee typically gets waived the following year once you clear an annual spend threshold — commonly AED 30,000 on entry cards, running up to AED 300,000 on top-tier ones. We treat these as effectively zero-fee for users who realistically clear the threshold; for users who don't, the card is listed at face value. Separately, a handful of cards gate the application itself on a minimum monthly salary (as low as AED 5,000, up to AED 25,000 on invite-tier products) — that's an eligibility bar to qualify at all, not a fee waiver, and it applies whether or not you ever charge a dirham to the card.
Watch for hidden costs. Some zero-fee UAE cards compensate with a higher forex markup (3%+ versus the market's better tier of 2% or under), weaker reward redemption ratios, or aggressive category exclusions (no rewards on utilities, fuel, or government payments). The per-card detail page surfaces these tradeoffs so the headline "lifetime-free" claim gets stress-tested.
How we rank low fee cards.
Low-fee UAE rankings weight the annual fee heavily against realistic AED spend, and treat a fee-waiver threshold as real only for a persona whose spend actually clears it. Full mechanics at /about/methodology.

Across the UAE cards that publish a waiver threshold, it ranges from AED 30,000 (Emirates Islamic's Cashback Plus and Gold cards) up to AED 300,000 (Emirates NBD's Skywards Infinite and Miles World Elite) of annual card spend. Clear the threshold during the qualifying year and the following year's fee is waived.
