This is for anyone trying to work out where an HDFC card sits before applying, or which rung is realistically open to them. It settles the question the bank's own site never answers directly: how the ten HDFC cards we track rank against each other on fee, earn rate, lounge access and the income you need.
Quick Answer: HDFC runs four tiers: entry (Swiggy, Tata Neu Plus, Millennia), mid (Diners Club Privilege, Tata Neu Infinity, Regalia Gold, Marriott Bonvoy), premium (Diners Club Black and Black Metal at ₹10,000 + GST, or ₹11,800) and super-premium (Infinia Metal at ₹12,500 + GST, or ₹14,750, by invitation).
The full hierarchy in one table
Fees are the bank's base fee plus 18% GST. Base earn is the rate on ordinary spend before any SmartBuy or partner multiplier, valued at ₹0.50 per Reward Point on the Diners and Regalia cards, ₹1 per point on the Infinia and Diners Black cards when redeemed for SmartBuy flights and hotels, and face value on cashback and NeuCoins. Income is the bank's published bar for salaried applicants.
| Tier | Card | Annual fee | Base earn | Lounge access | Salaried income |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Entry | Swiggy HDFC Bank | ₹500 + GST (₹590) | 1% cashback (10% on Swiggy, 5% online) | None | ₹25,000 a month |
| Entry | Tata Neu Plus | ₹499 + GST (₹589) | 1% NeuCoins (2% on Tata brands) | 1 domestic voucher a quarter on ₹50,000 spend | ₹3 lakh a year |
| Entry | Millennia | ₹1,000 + GST (₹1,180) | 1% CashPoints (5% on partner brands) | Up to 4 a year, instead of the quarterly voucher | ₹35,000 a month |
| Mid | Diners Club Privilege | ₹1,000 + GST (₹1,180) | 4 RP per ₹200, about 1% | 2 domestic + 1 international a quarter on ₹60,000 prior-quarter spend | ₹35,000 a month |
| Mid | Tata Neu Infinity | ₹1,499 + GST (₹1,769) | 1.5% NeuCoins (5% on Tata brands) | 2 domestic vouchers a quarter on ₹50,000 spend; 4 international a year | ₹1 lakh a month |
| Mid | Regalia Gold | ₹2,500 + GST (₹2,950) | 5 RP per ₹200, about 1.25% | 12 domestic (3 a quarter on ₹60,000 prior-quarter spend) + 6 international | ₹1 lakh a month (₹1.5 lakh private sector) |
| Mid | Marriott Bonvoy HDFC | ₹3,000 + GST (₹3,540), never waived | 2 Bonvoy points per ₹150, about 0.67% | 12 domestic a year | ₹5 lakh a year |
| Premium | Diners Club Black | ₹10,000 + GST (₹11,800) | 5 RP per ₹150, 3.33% | Unlimited domestic and international | ₹1.75 lakh a month; closed to new applicants |
| Premium | Diners Club Black Metal | ₹10,000 + GST (₹11,800) | 5 RP per ₹150, 3.33% | Unlimited domestic and international | ₹2.5 lakh a month |
| Super-premium | Infinia Metal | ₹12,500 + GST (₹14,750) | 5 RP per ₹150, 3.33% | Unlimited domestic and international, with guest access at select airports | ₹5 lakh a month; by invitation |
Two rows need a footnote. Diners Club Black, the plastic card, showed as not accepting new applications on the HDFC product page at our last check on 2026-09-17; HDFC directs applicants to the Metal Edition. Infinia Metal has no application form at all; it is issued through upgrades and relationship channels, which is why the upgrade ladder guide exists.
The four tiers, explained
Entry: Swiggy, Tata Neu Plus, Millennia
The three entry cards cost between ₹589 and ₹1,180 a year after GST and all waive that fee at ₹1 lakh to ₹2 lakh of annual spend, so in practice they are free for anyone who uses them as a daily driver.
They differ in what they are for. Swiggy HDFC is a category card: 10% cashback on Swiggy food orders, Instamart and Dineout up to ₹1,500 a statement cycle, 5% on a defined list of online shopping categories up to another ₹1,500, and 1% on everything else up to ₹500. There is no lounge access. Tata Neu Plus is the same idea for the Tata ecosystem, paying 2% NeuCoins at Tata brands and up to 7% on selected Tata Neu categories once you register for NeuPass, with one domestic lounge voucher a quarter if you spend ₹50,000 in the quarter. Millennia is the general-purpose entry card: 5% CashPoints on a list of partner brands including Amazon, Flipkart, Myntra, Swiggy and Uber, capped at 1,000 CashPoints a month, and 1% elsewhere. After the September 2026 revision, its lounge benefit is a choice each quarter, on ₹1 lakh of spend, between one lounge voucher and a ₹1,000 gift voucher.
None of the three earns HDFC Reward Points, which matters for the upgrade path: the bank's SmartBuy multipliers and the ladder to Regalia and beyond run on Reward Points.
Mid-tier: Diners Club Privilege, Tata Neu Infinity, Regalia Gold, Marriott Bonvoy
The mid-tier is where lounge access becomes a real benefit and where the two Reward Point tracks, Diners and Regalia, begin.
Diners Club Privilege is the cheapest way onto the Reward Points ladder at ₹1,000 + GST (₹1,180), waived at ₹3 lakh. Since the 15 May 2026 revision it earns 4 points per ₹200, 20 points per ₹200 on Swiggy and Zomato with the bonus capped at 2,500 points a month, and up to 10X on SmartBuy. Lounge access is three vouchers a quarter (two domestic, one international) if you spent ₹60,000 in the previous quarter, up from a ₹15,000 gate before the change. The trade-off against Regalia Gold is Diners network acceptance, which is thinner than Visa or Mastercard at smaller merchants.
Regalia Gold is the mainstream mid-tier card and the one most upgrade paths pass through. ₹2,500 + GST (₹2,950), waived at ₹4 lakh. It earns 5 points per ₹200 since May 2026, 5X on Marks & Spencer, Myntra, Nykaa and Reliance Digital, and up to 10X on SmartBuy hotels. Lounge access is 12 domestic visits a year, now gated at ₹60,000 of spend in the previous quarter, plus 6 international visits through Priority Pass. Milestones add a ₹1,500 voucher every quarter at ₹1.5 lakh and ₹5,000 flight vouchers at ₹5 lakh and ₹7.5 lakh of annual spend. Forex markup is 2%, the lowest in the mid-tier.
Tata Neu Infinity earns 1.5% NeuCoins on everything, 5% at Tata brands and up to 10% on the Tata Neu app with NeuPass. The lounge benefit is two domestic vouchers a quarter on ₹50,000 of spend and four international visits a year. It asks for ₹1 lakh a month of income, the same as Regalia Gold, and suits households whose grocery, electronics and travel already run through BigBasket, Croma and Air India.
Marriott Bonvoy HDFC is the odd one out. ₹3,000 + GST (₹3,540) with no waiver at any spend, a low 2 points per ₹150 on general purchases, but a Free Night Award worth up to 15,000 Bonvoy points on joining and again at ₹6 lakh, ₹9 lakh and ₹15 lakh of annual spend, plus Silver Elite status and 12 domestic lounge visits. It is a hotel card, not a rung on the ladder.
Premium: Diners Club Black and Diners Club Black Metal
Both charge ₹10,000 + GST (₹11,800) and earn 5 Reward Points per ₹150, which is 3.33% at the ₹1-per-point value you get on SmartBuy flights and hotels. Both give unlimited domestic and international lounge access for the primary and add-on cardholders, six golf games a quarter, 2X on weekend dining and a 2% forex markup.
The differences are in the small print. The plastic Diners Club Black waives its fee at ₹5 lakh, runs 10X on the whole SmartBuy portal capped at 7,500 bonus points a month, pays two ₹500 vouchers in any month you spend ₹80,000, and gives 10,000 bonus points every quarter you spend ₹4 lakh. Its membership pack (Club Marriott, Times Prime, Amazon Prime, Swiggy One, MMT Black) now unlocks at ₹8 lakh of anniversary-year spend. It is closed to new applications.
The Metal Edition is what you can actually get. The fee waiver moves to ₹8 lakh, SmartBuy is 10X on hotels and 5X on flights with a 10,000-point monthly bonus cap, the monthly voucher is gone, and the quarterly 10,000-point milestone at ₹4 lakh stays. The welcome pack (Club Marriott, Swiggy One, Amazon Prime) needs ₹1.5 lakh of spend in the first 90 days. HDFC's published bar is ₹2.5 lakh a month salaried or ₹30 lakh ITR, and the eligibility page favours existing customers with a credit limit of ₹5 lakh or more.
Super-premium: Infinia Metal
Infinia Metal charges ₹12,500 + GST (₹14,750), waived at ₹10 lakh of spend, and gives 12,500 Reward Points on joining and on every renewal, which at ₹1 per point on SmartBuy covers the fee by itself. The base rate is 5 points per ₹150 and, unlike every other HDFC card, that rate applies to insurance, utilities and education spends too. SmartBuy pays 10X on flights and hotels with a 15,000-point monthly bonus cap, 5X on instant vouchers and 2X on dining. Lounge access is unlimited at home and abroad, golf is unlimited with green fees waived, and the welcome pack includes Club Marriott for the first year.
There is no application form. HDFC's page describes the card as invitation-led, and in practice it is issued as an upgrade from Diners Club Black or Regalia Gold to customers with a strong relationship. The income bar HDFC quotes is ₹5 lakh a month for private-sector employees, ₹3.5 lakh for government employees, or ₹60 lakh of ITR.
Which tier are you eligible for?
HDFC publishes income floors per card. Use them as a first filter, then read the notes on relationship, because above Regalia Gold the relationship matters more than the number.
| Your monthly salary | Tier you can apply for | Realistic first card |
|---|---|---|
| ₹25,000 to ₹35,000 | Entry | Swiggy HDFC or Millennia; Tata Neu Plus if you shop Tata brands |
| ₹35,000 to ₹1 lakh | Entry plus Diners Club Privilege | Diners Club Privilege if you want Reward Points and lounges on a ₹1,000 fee |
| ₹1 lakh to ₹1.75 lakh | Mid-tier | Regalia Gold, or Tata Neu Infinity for the Tata ecosystem |
| ₹1.75 lakh to ₹2.5 lakh | Premium, with a relationship | Regalia Gold first, then an upgrade request to Diners Club Black Metal after 12 months |
| ₹2.5 lakh to ₹5 lakh | Premium | Diners Club Black Metal by direct application, especially with an existing HDFC limit above ₹5 lakh |
| ₹5 lakh and above | Super-premium | Diners Club Black Metal, then Infinia by upgrade or through a relationship manager |
Self-employed applicants map to the same rows by ITR: ₹6 lakh for the entry tier, ₹18 lakh for Regalia Gold, ₹30 lakh for Black Metal and ₹60 lakh for Infinia.
Rewards in practice across the tiers
The hierarchy is easier to feel with numbers. These assume ordinary spend with no SmartBuy routing, valued as in the table above.
| Annual spend | Millennia (1%) | Regalia Gold (1.25%) | Diners Club Black Metal (3.33%) | Infinia Metal (3.33%) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ₹2 lakh | ₹2,000, fee waived | ₹2,500, fee ₹2,950 | ₹6,660, fee ₹11,800 | ₹6,660, fee ₹14,750 but 12,500 renewal points |
| ₹5 lakh | ₹5,000 (partner caps bite) | ₹6,250 + ₹5,000 flight voucher, fee waived | ₹16,650 + 10,000 quarterly points if ₹4 lakh lands in one quarter | ₹16,650 + 12,500 renewal points |
| ₹10 lakh | ₹10,000 | ₹12,500 + ₹10,000 in flight vouchers | ₹33,300 + 10,000 points a quarter at ₹4 lakh, fee waived | ₹33,300 + 12,500 renewal points, fee waived |
Route flights and hotels through SmartBuy and the premium and super-premium rows roughly double on that portion of spend. That portal multiplier, not the base rate, is why people climb the ladder. The SmartBuy shopping guide covers how the caps work.
Who should get which tier
Get an entry card if:
- Your income is under ₹1 lakh a month and you want a fee that disappears at ₹1 lakh to ₹2 lakh of spend.
- Your spend is concentrated on Swiggy, Tata brands or the Millennia partner list, where the 5% to 10% rates beat any premium card's base rate.
Get a mid-tier card if:
- You fly domestically a few times a year and can put ₹60,000 through the card each quarter to unlock the lounge visits.
- You want to start earning Reward Points and building the relationship that leads to Diners Club Black Metal.
Get a premium card if:
- Your annual spend is ₹8 lakh or more, so the ₹11,800 fee is waived and the 3.33% base rate is doing real work.
- You book enough flights and hotels through SmartBuy to use the 10X hotel and 5X flight multipliers.
Skip the ladder entirely if:
- You spend under ₹1 lakh a year on cards; a lifetime-free card from another issuer will serve you better than any HDFC fee.
- Your spend is mostly at small merchants that do not accept Diners Club, in which case the Regalia track is the one to follow.
Upgrade path
The tiers connect in a specific order. Entry cards that earn cashback or NeuCoins do not upgrade into Reward Point cards; you apply fresh for Diners Club Privilege or Regalia Gold once your income clears the bar. From Regalia Gold or Diners Club Privilege, the request is for Diners Club Black Metal after 12 months of clean payment history and spend around ₹5 lakh or more. Infinia comes by invitation from there. The upgrade ladder guide covers timelines, what to say to the bank and why requests get rejected.
Common questions
What is the order of HDFC cards from lowest to highest? By fee: Tata Neu Plus, Swiggy, Millennia and Diners Club Privilege at the bottom, Tata Neu Infinity, Regalia Gold and Marriott Bonvoy in the middle, Diners Club Black and Black Metal at ₹10,000 + GST (₹11,800), Infinia Metal at ₹12,500 + GST (₹14,750) on top.
Which is the highest HDFC card? Infinia Metal. Diners Club Black Metal is one rung below with the same base earn rate and a lower fee.
What income do I need? Roughly ₹25,000 to ₹35,000 a month for entry, ₹1 lakh for Regalia Gold, ₹2.5 lakh for Black Metal and ₹5 lakh for Infinia, with ITR equivalents of ₹6 lakh, ₹18 lakh, ₹30 lakh and ₹60 lakh for the self-employed.
Are Diners Club Black and Black Metal the same card? Same fee and earn rate, different waiver, SmartBuy split, milestones and income bar, and only the Metal Edition is open to new applications.
Where do the co-brands fit? Beside the ladder. Swiggy, the two Tata Neu cards and Marriott Bonvoy earn in their own currencies and do not move you towards Infinia.
