04 ABOUT CITIBANK CREDIT CARDS

What makes Citibank's lineup distinctive.

Citibank India sold its consumer business — including credit cards, retail loans, wealth management and deposit accounts — to Axis Bank in a deal that signed in 2022 and closed in stages through 2023, with the final customer migration completing in July 2024. As of this editorial pass, there is no live Citi-branded consumer card being issued in India; the Citi PremierMiles and Citi Prestige JSONs on PerkPilot are preserved as legacy records with explicit `current_market_status.transition_note` fields pointing to their Axis equivalents (Horizon and Olympus respectively).

The lineup you see here is the pre-transition shape. Citi PremierMiles was historically the highest-earning air-miles card in the Indian market at 10 Miles per ₹100 on airline and Travel Edge bookings — the product that Axis Atlas had to match on EDGE Miles economics after Citi's exit. Citi Prestige at ₹20,000 was the foreign-bank super-premium benchmark: Priority Pass for primary plus four add-ons, the fourth-night-free hotel benefit that HDFC Diners Black never shipped, and a Taj/ITC welcome voucher package. Lower-tier Citi cards (Rewards, Cashback, PremierMiles Platinum) are also archived but rank below the two flagships and are not broken out here.

Axis Bank's customer handbook for the transition maps each Citi SKU to an Axis equivalent. PremierMiles holders migrated to Axis Horizon (a new SKU launched specifically for the transition); Prestige holders migrated to Axis Olympus (also a transition-era launch). Fee structures, renewal benefits and reward currencies were matched under the handbook, so existing holders did not take a sharp benefit hit on migration. New applicants cannot apply for the Citi-branded products — the Axis-branded successors are the only route into the same benefit package.

For PerkPilot users, the practical implication is that Citi should be treated as a historical data source rather than a shopping option. The two legacy JSONs are retained because a meaningful number of Indian cardholders still carry the Citi plastic through the honour-until-expiry grace period Axis extended, and because the Prestige fourth-night-free benefit has no current parallel in the active Indian market worth modelling against. Anyone doing fresh research for a card application in 2026 should look at Axis Horizon, Axis Olympus, or HSBC as the nearest foreign-bank substitutes.
