What makes ICICI Bank's lineup distinctive.
ICICI runs the second-largest private-bank card book after HDFC and has the most disciplined tier ladder in the market. Emeralde Private Metal sits at the top, then Emeralde (no-fee), then Sapphiro, Rubyx, Coral and Platinum Chip in sequence — each tier adds a clean increment in base earn rate, lounge allowance and fee. The Amazon Pay ICICI and Times Black cards sit outside the ladder as category specialists.
ICICI Reward Points are the single currency across the entire lineup, which removes a lot of the currency-arbitrage friction HDFC and Axis introduce. Points earn differently by card (4 per ₹100 on Emeralde, 6 per ₹200 on Emeralde Private Metal, 2 per ₹100 on Sapphiro) but redeem the same way — 1:1 value on iShop for flights, hotels and vouchers, around 0.25 paise on statement credit.
iShop is ICICI's equivalent of HDFC SmartBuy and it powers the headline accelerator rates. Flight bookings through iShop earn 6%, hotels 12%, voucher purchases 6% on Emeralde — and the same iShop multiplier stacks on Emeralde Private Metal up to its category caps. The portal is thinner than SmartBuy on airline partner selection but stronger on hotel inventory, particularly through the Expedia partnership.
The cap structure is what makes Emeralde Private Metal interesting. Instead of excluding insurance, utilities, grocery and education outright, ICICI caps the points — 5,000 points per day, 18,000 per month on these categories. For high-spend users that translates to real value on rent-adjacent payments where most competing cards earn zero. Fuel and tax remain excluded as with every major Indian issuer.
