This is for anyone who has been offered the Kotak White Reserve, or holds a Kotak White and wants to know whether the Reserve is worth the step up. It settles the card on numbers: what the fee is after GST, what White Pass returns at each spend level, what the lounges and golf are worth, and where it lands against the Kotak White and the market.
Quick Answer: White Reserve costs ₹12,500 + GST (₹14,750), waived at ₹10 lakh of spend, and pays a tiered 1.67% to 2.5% of annual spend as White Pass worth ₹1 each, capped at ₹2.5 lakh; below ₹3 lakh of spend it pays nothing, at ₹10 lakh it is a good card, and above ₹25 lakh it is one of the better metal cards in India.

What White Pass is worth in rupees
White Pass is unusual. Most cards pay points per ₹100 at the till; White Reserve pays nothing per transaction and instead credits White Pass value as your annual spend crosses tiers. The effective rate rises with spend.
| Annual spend | Tier rate | White Pass earned | Fee status | Net position |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Under ₹3 lakh | Nothing | ₹0 | ₹14,750 charged | Minus ₹14,750 |
| ₹3 lakh | 1.67% | ₹5,000 | ₹14,750 charged | Minus ₹9,750 |
| ₹5 lakh | 1.67% | About ₹8,350 | ₹14,750 charged | Minus ₹6,400 |
| ₹10 lakh | 2% | About ₹20,000 | Waived | Plus ₹20,000 |
| ₹25 lakh | 2.25% | About ₹56,000 | Waived | Plus ₹56,000 |
| ₹50 lakh | 2.5% | About ₹1,25,000 | Waived | Plus ₹1,25,000 |
| ₹1 crore | 2.5% | ₹2,50,000 (cap) | Waived | Plus ₹2,50,000 |
Two things stand out. The card is worthless below ₹3 lakh and expensive below ₹10 lakh, because there is no per-transaction earning to soften the fee. And above ₹10 lakh it is unusually clean: the waiver and the 2% tier arrive together, the redemption value is a flat ₹1 whether you take vouchers, statement credit or travel, and the ₹2.5 lakh cap only binds at ₹1 crore of spend.
Compare that with HDFC Infinia Metal, which pays 3.33% on everything but only at ₹1 a point on SmartBuy flights and hotels, or Axis Magnus, which pays 1.2% until ₹1.5 lakh a month and 3.5% above it. White Reserve's 2% to 2.5% is lower than Infinia's headline but comes with no redemption asymmetry to manage.
Lounges, golf and the benefits that are not White Pass
Lounges. Unlimited domestic access for the primary and add-on cardholders, and 16 international visits a year. That is more international access than Kotak White (4), fewer than the unlimited Priority Pass on Magnus or Infinia, and enough for most people who fly abroad monthly.
Golf. Two complimentary rounds a month at select courses in India and abroad for the primary cardholder. For a regular golfer that is worth ₹5,000 to ₹10,000 a month in green fees, which on its own covers the fee.
Memberships. Club Marriott (discounts on stays, dining and spa at Marriott properties) and Swiggy One. Kotak valued the Club Marriott membership at ₹15,000; treat it as worth what you would actually use it for.
Forex and fuel. A 2% forex markup and a 1% fuel surcharge waiver on ₹400 to ₹4,000 transactions.
Concierge. A dedicated 24x7 line for travel, dining, shopping and event assistance.
White Reserve vs Kotak White
Both cards use White Pass, both are by invitation, and Kotak allows only one active White or White Reserve card per customer, so the choice is real.
| Feature | Kotak White | Kotak White Reserve |
|---|---|---|
| Annual fee | ₹3,000 + GST (₹3,540) | ₹12,500 + GST (₹14,750) |
| Fee waiver | ₹5 lakh spend | ₹10 lakh spend |
| Welcome benefit | ₹1,500 voucher on ₹30,000 in 60 days | ₹1,500 voucher on ₹30,000 in 60 days |
| White Pass at ₹2 lakh | ₹2,000 | ₹0 |
| White Pass at ₹4 lakh | ₹6,000 cumulative | About ₹6,700 |
| White Pass at ₹6 lakh | ₹12,000 cumulative | About ₹10,000 |
| White Pass at ₹9 lakh | ₹19,000 cumulative | About ₹15,000 |
| White Pass at ₹12 lakh | ₹27,000 cumulative, the maximum | About ₹24,000 |
| White Pass at ₹25 lakh | ₹27,000 | About ₹56,000 |
| Domestic lounges | 8 a year, 2 a quarter | Unlimited |
| International lounges | 4 a year | 16 a year |
| Golf | None | 2 rounds a month |
| Forex markup | 3.5% | 2% |
| Age | 28 to 65 | 21 to 70 |
The surprising row is ₹12 lakh: Kotak White's milestones pay ₹27,000 at that spend, more than White Reserve's ₹24,000, on a fee a quarter of the size. White Reserve only pulls ahead on White Pass at about ₹14 lakh, where White's cap has already bound, and it is clearly ahead by ₹25 lakh. Below that, the case for Reserve is the lounges, golf and forex, not the earning.
Who should get it
Accept the invitation if:
- You spend ₹10 lakh or more a year on cards, so the fee is waived and the 2% tier is working.
- You spend ₹25 lakh or more; at that level the 2.25% and 2.5% tiers make White Reserve one of the better-earning metal cards in India with no redemption games.
- You fly abroad regularly and want unlimited domestic lounges plus 16 international visits for a family with add-on cards.
- You play golf.
Stay on Kotak White (or decline) if:
- Your spend is between ₹5 lakh and ₹12 lakh; White's milestones earn as much or more for ₹11,210 less in fees.
- Your spend is under ₹3 lakh; White Reserve earns nothing there.
- You want a card you can apply for. Both Kotak cards are relationship-led, and Kotak paused new issuance in 2024 under RBI restrictions; if you do not already bank with Kotak, look at Magnus, Diners Club Black Metal or Emeralde Private Metal instead.
Break-even
Steady state, White Pass at ₹1, no benefits counted.
| Spend | White Pass | Fee | Result |
|---|---|---|---|
| ₹3 lakh | ₹5,000 | ₹14,750 | Loss of ₹9,750; lounges and golf must cover it |
| ₹8.8 lakh | About ₹14,700 | ₹14,750 | Break-even on White Pass alone |
| ₹10 lakh | About ₹20,000 | ₹0 | Fee gone; card is net positive by ₹20,000 |
Break-even on White Pass alone sits just under ₹9 lakh, and the fee waiver at ₹10 lakh makes the question moot for anyone above it. The card is built for people who never think about the fee, which is what Kotak's issuance criteria select for.
What changed recently
At our September 2026 read of the Kotak product page, the welcome benefit had shrunk from a ₹15,000 White Pass credit plus Club Marriott membership to a ₹1,500 voucher on ₹30,000 of spend in 60 days. The ₹2.5 lakh annual White Pass cap and the one-card-per-customer rule are stated on the page. The ₹10 lakh waiver, the 2% forex markup, unlimited lounges for primary and add-on cardholders and the two monthly golf rounds were unchanged. In June 2025 Kotak added a 1% fee on wallet loads, utility and fuel spends above thresholds across its cards.
