What makes HSBC's lineup distinctive.
HSBC India runs one of the smaller foreign-bank card books in the market — four active mainstream SKUs after Citi's consumer-banking exit left HSBC as the largest foreign card issuer in India by cards-in-force. The lineup has been rebuilt since 2023 around the Premier relationship tier and a mid-market cashback anchor in Live+, with the Visa Platinum and RuPay Platinum carrying the lifetime-free and UPI-credit use cases.
The architecture is unusually bifurcated for a foreign bank. Live+ at ₹999 sits as the everyday cashback workhorse; TravelOne at ₹4,999 is the travel-focused middle; Premier Metal at ₹20,000 is invite-only for the bank's Premier banking tier. A co-branded Taj card sits outside the lineup as a luxury-hotel specialist. There is no generic rewards flagship in the ₹5,000–₹15,000 band the way ICICI or HDFC structure their middle tier — you either sit on Live+ or qualify for Premier.
HSBC Reward Points are the currency on TravelOne and Premier Metal and their redemption value splits sharply by path. Travel with Points on flights and hotels redeems at ₹0.50 per point; cashback and rewards catalogue sit at ₹0.20 per point; airline and hotel partner transfers are available but partner-specific. The 2.5× gap between travel and cashback redemption means Travel with Points is effectively the only way to make the rewards math work on the premium cards.
Live+ ships a distinct cashback structure rather than points — 10% on dining, food delivery and grocery up to ₹1,000 per cycle, 1.5% flat base. Past the ₹10k/month category cap the card reverts to the 1.5% floor, which is still competitive but not category-leading. The Premier Metal overseas 4X rate is time-bound to 31 December 2026; anyone evaluating it should price against the base 1.5% post-expiry.
