How to Get ICICI Emeralde Private Metal: Eligibility and Routes

Who ICICI issues the Emeralde Private Metal card to, the relationship it looks for, the Emeralde standard route that most holders took first, what it costs after GST and how it compares with the standard Emeralde.

icici emeralde eligibility how-to-get premium

This is for anyone who wants ICICI's top card and has found that its eligibility page does not give a number. It settles what the bank actually looks for, the two routes that produce the card, the documents and the timeline, and whether the standard Emeralde is the better buy while you wait.

Quick Answer: Emeralde Private Metal is issued by relationship rather than income: ICICI Private Banking or Wealth clients get it through their relationship manager, and standard Emeralde holders with a year of ₹10 lakh spend get upgraded; it costs ₹12,499 + GST (₹14,749), waived at ₹10 lakh of annual spend.

What the card is

ICICI Emeralde Private Metal is the bank's flagship. The fee is ₹12,499 + GST (₹14,749), waived for the following year on ₹10 lakh of spend. The welcome package is 12,500 Reward Points plus Taj Epicure Plus and EazyDiner Prime memberships, delivered within 45 business days of the fee being charged.

Earning is 6 Reward Points per ₹200, and those points are worth ₹1 each on iShop for flights, hotels and vouchers, so the base rate is 3%. Grocery, utilities and education are capped at 1,000 points each per cycle and insurance at 5,000. Off iShop the points are worth ₹0.25 on the rewards catalogue or as statement credit, so the value depends on redeeming through the portal. Lounge access is unlimited, domestic and international, for the primary and add-on (Plus) cardholders, golf is unlimited every month, BookMyShow gives up to ₹750 off a second ticket twice a month, air accident cover is ₹3 crore and the forex markup is 2%.

Eligibility: what ICICI actually looks for

ICICI's eligibility page for Private Metal does not carry an income figure, and that is the point: the card is relationship-led. What the bank's page and its relationship channel describe:

Requirement What ICICI looks for
Availability Select customers: Private Banking clients, high-value existing customers, customers with a significant banking relationship
Income No public cut-off; the standard Emeralde's ₹1.5 lakh a month is the floor in practice, and Private Metal holders typically sit well above it
Age 21 to 65
Credit history Excellent; a score of 750 or above is the working assumption
Residency Indian resident
Documents Identity proof, address proof, salary slips or ITR, bank statements, and documents for the existing ICICI relationship

Relationship value is what the bank is really assessing. ICICI's Wealth Management tier starts around ₹30 lakh of relationship value (deposits, investments and family accounts) and Private Banking well above that, and both tiers come with a relationship manager who can file the Private Metal application. Without one of those, the route is the standard Emeralde.

Route 1: Wealth or Private Banking relationship

If you already bank with ICICI at Wealth or Private Banking level, the card is a request away.

  1. Ask the relationship manager for Emeralde Private Metal by name. The default pitch is often the standard Emeralde or Sapphiro; be specific.
  2. Provide income proof if asked. For most Wealth clients the bank already holds it.
  3. Expect a decision in two to three weeks and the metal card 7 to 10 working days later.
  4. Watch for the welcome package. The 12,500 points and the Taj Epicure Plus and EazyDiner Prime memberships are e-mailed within 45 business days of the fee hitting the statement.

If you bank with ICICI but below Wealth, moving a salary account, a fixed deposit of a few lakh or a mutual fund portfolio into the relationship is what gets you a named contact. The card follows the relationship, not the other way round.

Route 2: upgrade from the standard Emeralde

This is the path most Private Metal holders without a private banking relationship took. The standard Emeralde is open to direct application at ₹1.5 lakh of monthly income (₹15 lakh ITR for the self-employed) with a 750+ score, and it costs ₹12,000 + GST (₹14,160), waived at ₹10 lakh of spend.

The upgrade profile:

  • Standard Emeralde held for 12 months with no late payments.
  • Annual spend around ₹10 lakh, the waiver threshold on both cards, which tells the bank you will keep the fee waived on Private Metal too.
  • Utilisation under 30% across all cards.
  • A banking relationship built during the year: salary credits, a deposit or investments with ICICI.

Request the upgrade through the relationship manager if you have one, or through the card helpline as a "card upgrade" request with the latest income documents. Your existing Reward Points carry across, since both cards earn ICICI Reward Points, but note that they are worth ₹0.25 on the standard Emeralde and ₹1 on iShop with Private Metal; if you have a balance, wait to redeem it until the upgrade is through.

Route 3: cold application

The Private Metal page on the ICICI site has an application path, but a cold application without an ICICI relationship rarely produces the card. The bank steers those applicants to the standard Emeralde or to Sapphiro. Treat that as the start of Route 2 rather than a rejection.

Private Metal vs Emeralde standard

Feature Emeralde Emeralde Private Metal
Annual fee ₹12,000 + GST (₹14,160), or ₹1,000 + GST (₹1,180) a month on the monthly plan ₹12,499 + GST (₹14,749)
Fee waiver ₹10 lakh spend ₹10 lakh spend
Welcome benefit None beyond the benefits package 12,500 Reward Points + Taj Epicure Plus + EazyDiner Prime
Base earn 4 points per ₹100, worth ₹0.25 each, about 1% 6 points per ₹200, worth ₹1 on iShop, about 3%
Utilities and insurance 1 point per ₹100 6 per ₹200, capped at 1,000 points per cycle (5,000 for insurance)
Lounge access Unlimited domestic and international, primary cardholder only Unlimited domestic and international, primary and Plus cardholders
Golf Complimentary rounds or lessons monthly, based on eligible spend Unlimited rounds every month
BookMyShow Not a headline benefit Up to ₹750 off the second ticket, twice a month
Forex markup 2% 2%
Air accident cover ₹3 crore ₹3 crore
Eligibility ₹1.5 lakh a month salaried, ₹15 lakh ITR, 750+ score Relationship-led; select customers

The fee gap is ₹589 a year. The earn gap is threefold. That is why Private Metal is worth pursuing if you are already paying for Emeralde: on ₹10 lakh of spend, Emeralde returns about ₹10,000 of points and Private Metal about ₹30,000 on iShop.

Documents to prepare

  • Income proof: three months of salary slips and Form 16, or two years of ITR with computation for the self-employed.
  • Identity proof: PAN plus Aadhaar, passport or driving licence.
  • Address proof: Aadhaar, passport, utility bill or rent agreement.
  • Bank statements: three months, or six if applying through the relationship route where the bank wants to see the relationship.
  • ICICI relationship documents: account details, deposit or investment statements held with the bank.

For an upgrade from Emeralde, KYC is already complete and only fresh income proof is normally needed.

What it costs and returns

Item Amount
Joining fee ₹12,499 + GST (₹14,749)
Welcome points 12,500, worth ₹12,500 on iShop
Net first-year cost before spend About ₹2,249, plus the Taj Epicure Plus and EazyDiner Prime memberships on top
Points at ₹10 lakh of spend 30,000, worth ₹30,000 on iShop
Fee from year two at ₹10 lakh spend ₹0, waived

Few cards in India return their fee in the welcome benefit alone and then waive it at a spend level most premium applicants already have. That is the case for Private Metal, provided you redeem on iShop rather than for statement credit.

Who should get it

Get it if:

  • You already hold the standard Emeralde and spend near ₹10 lakh a year; the upgrade triples your earn rate for ₹589 more.
  • You bank with ICICI at Wealth or Private Banking level and want a single card for family lounges, golf and iShop travel.
  • You book flights and hotels through iShop, where the ₹1-per-point value lives.

Skip it if:

  • You redeem points for statement credit; at ₹0.25 a point the 3% headline becomes 0.75%.
  • You have no ICICI relationship and no appetite to build one; get Emeralde or Sapphiro first.
  • Your spend is heavy on grocery, utilities or education, where the per-cycle caps bite.

If the bank says no

  • No relationship: open an ICICI account, move salary or a deposit, and hold the standard Emeralde for a year.
  • Spend too low on Emeralde: aim for the ₹10 lakh waiver mark for a full year before asking again.
  • Score or utilisation: bring utilisation under 30% across all cards, avoid new enquiries for six months, clear anything overdue.
  • Recent decline: wait six months, and make the next request through a relationship manager rather than the helpline.
